IB Specified Concepts

Conceptual understanding is a main element of an  IB education.  Understanding the IB Specified Concepts allows, learners to connect learning within and across disciplines.  It is the understanding of these broad concepts that brings meaning to many of the specific pieces of learning, bringing them together in a more significant manner.

The concepts that are central to the curriculum are presented in the form of guiding questions. It is these questions, used flexibly by teachers and students when planning an inquiry-based unit, that shape that unit, giving it direction and purpose. It is in this sense that the guiding questions, and the Specified Concepts to which they relate, are said to drive the PYP curriculum.
