Eagle Valley Elementary School

September, 2008

Dear EVES Families,

Welcome to another school year!  I hope that you had a fabulous summer with your children and had a chance to play outside in the wonderful weather.  It was great to see many of you as you dropped your children off for our annual assessment days.

With assessments behind us, with exception of some make-ups, teachers are ready to go with a new reading program this year.  Please do not be surprised if your child comes home and tells you s/he has multiple teachers for reading.  We are re-vamping the way we deliver reading instruction to students in order to design individual learning plans for each one based on their own needs and reading level.

I would like to take the opportunity to invite you to our Open House on Tuesday, September 16th.  Our Annual Pot-Luck Dinner will begin at 6:15pm and last until around 7:00pm.  Classrooms will be open for visits from 7:00pm to 7:30pm.  We hope to see you during this joyous event.  Your children will be excited to show you around their classrooms and introduce you to another year at Eagle Valley Elementary.

Again, I’d like to extend a warm welcome to new families at Eagle Valley Elementary and welcome those returning for another year.

Respectfully,

Monica Lammers

 Queridas familias de EVES,

¡Bienvenidos a otro año escolar!

Respetuosamente,

Monica Lammers

FLYER DISTRIBUTION POLICY

Per the new policy in place last year (mainly due to the fact that we were being inundated with flyers, advertisements, etc.), pieces of communication must first be approved at the District Office. Each school now has a flyer table in the main offices in their buildings, and they are able to place the approved information on these tables.  Parents are aware of this change and know where to look for such information. (At Eagle Valley Elementary, flyers on placed in the entry way.)  Parties wishing for these materials to be distributed are responsible for dropping off copies to individual schools.  As far as sending home information with students or placing information in individual school newsletters, that is up to the discretion of the individual school.

TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION

Welcome back everyone!  I would like to, first, thank all parents that safely use parent drop zones to load and unload their children.  By following proper procedures you are keeping not only your student safe but all others as well.

I have, unfortunately, met a few parents in bus lanes.  I truly realize the love you have for your child and your care for their safety.  Please know that I care for 5,949 students and have the absolute responsibility to make sure that each one of them is safe.  I become a mama bear when I feel someone puts any student in danger as do the bus drivers.  Your children are our children.

As safety is my number one priority it is something I take very seriously and cannot take any chances that may compromise any student’s environment.  When you drop a student in a bus lane, and not in the parent drop area, you are seriously compromising not only your child’s safety but all other children’s safety as well.  Bus drivers are trained to watch for everything, especially those students coming off of their bus.  Children moving in between buses and coming from areas that they should not be is a huge liability for everyone.  Most bus accidents happen when there are students that are in areas that they should not be and a driver does not see them.

Using this information please do the right thing.  Please follow the rules.  If you don’t know where you should drop please inquire at the school.  Help us keep our exemplary safety record and to continue to avoid tragedy.

My entire staff thanks you and I thank you!  Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns at 328-1939.  The dispatcher can be reached at 328-2570 for any questions or concerns during routing times.

Sincerely,

Melanie McMichael
Director or Transportation
