Eagle Valley Elementary School

September 2007                              Monica Lammers, Principal

Principal’s News
Dear EVES Families,
Welcome to the 2007-2008 School-Year!  We are excited to see smiling faces in the building again.  It is great to hear children’s voices fill our hallways and classrooms with new enthusiasm.
I hope you were able to spend some meaningful time with your children this summer.
Thank you for being flexible, once again, as we conducted our assessments for the first two days of school.  Last year, when we first started this new structure, teachers found it helpful to be able to hear their students read one-on-one in the first two days.  Your child’s instruction was individualized immediately.  This year proved to be just as successful.  If your child missed testing on August 29th and 30th, we will complete all make-up reading assessments within the first two weeks of school.
I hope to see all of you as we host our annual Open House on September 18th.  We will have a PTA sponsored Pot Luck Dinner from 6:00 to 6:45.  You are welcome to visit classrooms and orient yourselves with your child’s new teacher between 6:45 and 7:15.
Please do not hesitate to call on me with any questions you might have about your child’s education at EVES.  I am looking forward to a wonderful school year.
                Respectfully,
                Monica Lammers

WELCOME BACK EAGLES!

NOTE FROM THE P.E. DEPARTMENT

Welcome to a new year at EVES!  I am really excited to be teaching your child this year.  For those of you who do not know me, my name is Trina Ehrenberg.  I absolutely love sports and games, watching and playing them.  As a tomboy growing up, I played every game I could, even though some were considered for boys only.  Hence, I don’t consider any sport or game for only boys or girls.  I think that all kids, including myself, can and should experience as many different games as possible.  Why miss out on the fun of any of them?

I will be introducing your child to a lot of different sports and games, teaching them the basic skills and rules that go along with them.  My goal is to lay a foundation for them to build on as they get older, so they can enjoy the benefits provided by sports and games their entire life.

In order for your child to get the most out of their PE class and participate in a safe manner, they need to come prepared.  The first thing is to wear tennis shoes and appropriate clothing.  (Sweats or shorts for students are great and if your child wears sandals or shoes that slip on, please have them pack tennis shoes in their backpack for PE.  Also, if your daughter wears dresses/skirts on PE days, please make sure they wear shorts under them.)  What to wear has been talked about in class along with the following procedures that will help them to succeed in this class and others:

•    Stopping, looking and listening when the teacher signals
•    Following Directions the 1st time
•    Respecting the personal space of others
•    Taking care of equipment, themselves, and others
•    Doing their best and having FUN!

Please encourage your child in these areas.  The grade earned by your child in PE class will be based on their effort in these areas and following these rules will provide more enjoyment for your child and others in the class.

If you have any questions or concerns about PE and/or your child in PE, please feel free to call or e-mail me.  Thanks for the constant help and encouragement that you provide your child/children.

WILD WEST DAY

The 17th Annual WILD WEST DAY is set for Sunday, September 30th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Wild West Day is about fun, family and community.  From craft booths for kids to stage entertainment to wagon rides to carnival games, the event offers a fine day of Colorado sunshine at the beautiful 4 Eagle Ranch.

This is our PTA’s primary fundraising event.  Last year, the money was used for field trips, supplies, GRIP books, educational materials, assemblies, author visits, Jazz Goes to School, teacher appreciation and more.  Please plan on attending for a great day of family fun and a whole lot of good!

Wild West Day’s bright blue raffle tickets will come home with your student on Friday, September 14th.  Prices are $2 each or $5 for three.  The raffle drawing will be held on the day of the event, September 30, at 2:30 p.m. on the Main Stage.  You need not be present to win.  There are many great prizes to win, all generously donated by local businesses.

We are in need of a few parent volunteers for the raffle ticket stapling party on Wednesday, September 12th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Room 204 at CMC in Edwards.  Please contact Linda Zilar at 328-1543 for more information or to volunteer.  This is a great way to get more involved in Wild West Day and your child’s school and it’s FUN.

EAGLE VALLEY CHILDREN’S CHORALE

The Eagle Valley Children’s Chorale is in its 13th year and provides an alternative after school program focused on singing and the performing arts.  This semester is 12 weeks long and will end with a concert tentatively scheduled at the Beaver Creek Chapel on Sunday, December 9th.  Children attend one rehearsal per week at the location of their choice.  After school care is provided from the final bell to the start of rehearsal for no extra charge.  We are excited to be at Red Hill Elementary on Wednesdays from 3:30-4:45, Eagle Valley Charter Academy on Thursdays from 3:45-5:00, and Eagle Valley Elementary on Fridays from 3:30-4:45.  Call Kim Denning at 390-5133 or Marka Moser at 926-0577 for more information.

Atentamente,
                Monica Lammers
