Principal’s News

Dear EVES Families,

Time sure has flown this year!  It’s already May, and we all know that means longer evenings, increased time outside and the beginning of our spring testing.
In May, our students will be administered the NWEA assessment, which is taken on the computers.  Students will be taking the Reading, Language Usage, and Math assessments, allowing us to see how much a child has grown in a year’s time.  We will also be administering the DRA2, which is a reading assessment.  This test allows us to determine whether or not a student is reading at grade level.  In addition, our students will also be taking the District Writing Assessment, which assesses students’ abilities to write an extended piece.
Please check with your child’s classroom teacher for specific testing times as each grade and class is assigned a different time.
I would also like to invite all parents to join us in preparing for our Spring Show.  We need parents to help us with hanging artwork and backdrops for the show and would appreciate your attendance starting at 2:50pm on May 29th.  We’ll see you at 6:30pm for the show itself!  Thank you for any help you can provide.

                Respectfully,

Monica Lammers

It is not too late!
Enclosed in this newsletter is an order form for our 2008-2009 Yearbook.  Yearbooks will arrive at the end of May.
Please be sure to fill out one form for each child.  If you need more, please see us in the school office or write us a note.  We will be sure to send additional forms home.
Our 2008-2009 Yearbook will be sold at the same cost as the one from last year… $15.00.  It is a fully colored, soft-covered book with each child’s school portrait and other candid pictures from various events at school.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call and let us know.

EVES SPRING SHOW

We are gearing up for the spring show on Thursday, May 29th at 6:30.  The students have been working very diligently to learn music, movement, and lines for what will be a fun program all about Dr. Seuss.  Please come support your child and be entertained!

We are asking that students arrive by 6:15 ready to perform.  We are also looking for some parent volunteers to help hang student artwork for the show starting after school on the day of the show at 2:50 p.m.  With several volunteers, we can get this done quickly.  If you would like to help out, please email Ms. Matthews at bridget.matthews@eagleschools.net.

NOTES FROM THE PE DEPARTMENT

As the weather gets nicer and your children begin to wear sandals and other warm weather footwear to school, please make sure they also bring tennis shoes for their PE days.  It makes it very difficult for students to participate fully or at all if they are not in the required footwear for PE.  Also, not having proper footwear presents a safety and health concern for all students.  Thanks so much  for your help in this area.

FIELD DAY has been set for Wednesday, May 28th from 9:30-11:30 a.m. on the field at EVMS.  Please remember to send your child with sunscreen, tennis shoes, water bottle, hat, and a sack lunch for this day.

If we get rained out this day, the makeup day will be Tuesday, June 3rd at the same time.  As the date gets closer, please check for any updates that may occur.

As always, if you have any questions regarding Physical Education, please feel free to call or e-mail me.
