THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME

Marta Barnard Assembly – February 9, 2007 – 1:30 p.m.
Students will be dancing in their seats at the end of this one-woman show!  Watch and listen as a storyteller finds a home in a book of poetry and characters begin to come to life.  Vampire Bugs light up the sky as animals band together to save
their forest home.  Multicultural characters explore the voices of shelter children and Piglet builds a home of sticks.  Audiences join by acting out poems from the books on stage.

Grandmother Spider weaves the world and sun together and the ugly duckling finally finds a home.  Each show is unique and celebrates literacy with theatre and dance!

NOTE FROM THE PE DEPT.

We have started our Jump Rope for Heart unit in Physical Education.  Students are learning how to maintain healthy bodies for a lifetime by making wise food choices, keeping physically active, and avoiding other health risks, such as cigarettes.  Along with this unit, the 2nd thru 5th grades are raising money for the American Heart Association.  The money they raise will go towards Research, Public Education, Professional Education, and Community Service programs.

Last year, EVES raised over $800.00 for the American Heart Association.  Hopefully, we can raise even more this year.  I encourage you to talk to your child about this fundraiser and the ways that they and your family may choose to be involved in it.  Please keep an eye out for the fundraising packets that will be coming home on February 6th.

In conjunction with this unit, we will have an optional Jump Rope for Heart event after school on February 23, 3:00-4:00 p.m. in the gym.  This will be an
extra time that the kids can have fun socializing and jumping together as we wrap up this PE unit.  Please make sure if your child stays for this event, they have a ride home or permission to walk home because busses will not provide transportation after this event.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
